The effect of length to diameter of the detonator is compared using Ansys/Autodyn 2-D simulations, the results of which are validated experimentally. It was found that higher pressure comes with a larger diameter, because it will result in more explosive energy being allocated out the end of the detonator.
This paper shows and reviews the similitudes and differences in explosions generated by high explosives and gas explosions, the reasons why gas explosions are difficult to replicate using high explosives, and the considerations when performing explosive testing using methane gases and coal dust.
