Q: Despite having many, what is just one of your section’s goals for the upcoming year?
A: One goal for the Drillers Section for the next year is to improve communication on geological information to enhance drilling practices.
Q: What has your section recently accomplished?
A: One recent accomplishment is the drilling section finalized a new strategic plan.
Q: With membership renewal coming up, will you let the readers know who would benefit most from joining your section?
A: Joining the Drillers Section is most beneficial for those interested in drilling operations, safety, and staying updated on industry best practices.
Q: Something interesting that our members may not know about your section.
A: The Drillers Section is dedicated to recognizing excellence in drilling through awards like "Driller Of The Year" and "Drilling Industry Leadership," which honor exceptional individuals for their outstanding contributions to the industry.
Q: When will members of your section meet next?
A: Members of the Drillers Section will meet online as well as at the ISEE annual meeting, to ensure you're up to date on meetings, please email oakes.kurt1961@gmail.com.
Q: Despite having many, what is just one of your section’s goals for the upcoming year?
A: The joint EFEE/ISEE study comparing international blasting standards and current efforts to compare these standards at two residential structures close-in to quarry blasting. IN addition to seismograph deployment methods, we have extended our studies to include global wall and ceiling strains, climatological crack responses compared with those from blasting and localized strain measurements.
Q: What has your section recently accomplished?
A: The recent addition of the use of seismographs and vibration measurements and analyses during the Blasters Weekend has been extremely successful and beneficial to not only vibration consultant but to blasters. The feedback from participants suggests this educational forum should continue on an annual basis.
Q: With membership renewal coming up, will you let the readers know who would benefit most from joining your section?
A: It is highly recommended that those who deploy seismographs, analyze measurements, and provide reports to participate. We hope to advance our education programs to include higher-level data analyses as guidance to blasters and blast consultants to optimize blast design objectives starting in 2025.
Q: Something interesting that our members may not know about your section.
A: Historically, the most useful outcome of the Seismograph Section has been the ISEE Performance Specifications for blasting seismographs (2022 ed.) and the ISEE Field Practice Guidelines for Blasting Seismographs (2020 ed.). These important documents are routinely evaluated every few years for modifications and input from Section members is vital to keep these documents relevant and up to date.
Q: When will members of your section meet next?
A: Members of the Seismograph Section will meet during each annual ISEE conference. However, individual study groups are continuously meeting throughout the year and at ISEE chapter meetings as needed. Email Cathy at cathy@aimonemartin.com if you are interested in becoming involved.
