The 45th Annual Conference on Explosives and Blasting Technique will be held Jan. 27 - 30, 2019, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. Exhibit booth space assignments will soon be underway with more booth opportunities than ever before. Organizations are invited to showcase their latest technology, equipment, design, products and services to the global explosives marketplace. As many as 1,600 blasters, manufacturers, government officials and suppliers from all over the world are expected to gather for this conference to gain new insights and ideas and form new business alliances. Participation is expected to be strong as the largest conference of its kind in the explosives industry returns to the Music City.

This annual event is an international forum designed for the hands-on explosives user. As in past years, the 2019 program will include exhibits, technical sessions, panel discussions and educational workshops. The informative Blasters Training Seminar and the Blasters R Us Video Roundup are a few highlights of the popular Blasters Weekend package, which begins on Saturday, Jan. 26.

In addition, educational programs, books, DVDs and ISEE apparel will be sold at the ISEE bookstore, including the 18th Edition ISEE Blasters’ Handbook (print and digital) and the 45th Annual Conference Proceedings.

The deadline to submit an abstract of your recent research or work is Wednesday, May 30. This is your chance to share your techniques, strategies and research with your peers and industry leaders at the world’s largest conference on explosives engineering.

Upload your 200 to 400 word abstract online. If your abstract is selected, you will have the opportunity to present your findings at the 45th Annual Conference on Explosives and Blasting Technique in Nashville, Tenn.

The Annual Conference on Explosives and Blasting Technique is the largest gathering of its kind involving field blasters, manufacturers of explosives related products, educators and researchers. The conference provides a forum for the discussion of practical and technical information as well as presentation of the latest discoveries in the commercial explosives industry worldwide. ISEE members and non-members are invited to submit ideas for papers to be presented at the conference.

Presented papers will be published in the proceedings of the conference and at onemine.org, which is home to more than 124,000 articles, technical papers, books in the explosives, mining, minerals and tunneling industries from ISEE, SME, NIOSH, AusIMM, CIM, SAIMM, TMS, IMPC, DFI and IIMP.

More than 1,700 people from around the world met Jan. 28–31, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas, for the 44th Annual Conference on Explosives & Blasting Technique, the world’s largest conference on explosives engineering.

During the conference, keynote presenter and astronaut Mike Mullane spoke about the space shuttle Challenger disaster and emphasized the importance of safety. The new online SEE Education Foundation auction, which concluded Tuesday, Jan. 30, raised more than $11,000. Big-ticket items included rare vintage Atlas stamping plates, a lifetime ISEE membership and a helicopter tour in Alaska.

The money raised through the auction will go to the Education Foundation ISEE Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to college students from across the globe who are pursuing a career in the blasting industry.

Accolades
David Siskind, Ph.D., DE Siskind & Associates (DESA), was inducted into the Explosives Industry Hall of Fame. He becomes the second person to be given such honors. Several other industry members who throughout the year have made exceptional contributions to the explosives and drilling fields were also given awards at the conference.

Michael Cechanski, STT-Surfex Technology & Trading, won the Distinguished Service Award; Paul Worsey, Missouri S & T, was honored with the Industry Service Award; Nancy Allen, HTA Enterprises Inc., was awarded the Blaster's Leadership Award; Patrick Garven, Finndrill Inc., was honored with the Driller's Leadership Award; Catherine Johnson, Missouri S & T, was awarded the President's Award; and Ryan Brogden, Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy, won Paper of the Year.

Passing of the Gavel
After completing his two-year term, Jack Eloranta handed over the reins and gavel to the new ISEE Board President Jim Daley. The next Annual Conference on Explosives & Blasting Technique will be from Jan. 27 – 30, 2019, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville, Tenn.
