In Memory of Suresh Subramanian

Suresh Subramanian, UTEC Corporation’s long serving President, passed away suddenly on November 22, 2024, while overseas on a trip to India. Born and raised in India, Suresh obtained his early education in Mumbai. He went on to obtain his Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from one of India’s highly respected Regional Engineering Colleges (now National Institutes of Technology). In 1993 he and his wife Vani were married, and subsequently moved to the United States where Suresh attended the University of Cincinnati, earning his Master’s in Chemical Engineering in 1989. Shortly thereafter both he and Vani became US Citizens, and their only son, Emhry was born. Suresh began his career in the US working as a consumer products engineer with Proctor and Gamble.  From there he moved to Memphis to take up a position with Schering-Plough. In 2000, Suresh joined Orica as a product development engineer at Orica’s then newly established North America Technical Center in Watkins, Colorado, near Denver.  In 2004, Suresh left Orica and joined UTEC Corporation as Vice President, becoming its President shortly thereafter.

In the ensuing twenty years, Suresh’s experience, energy, and infectious personality helped transform the company from its original chemistry legacy activities dating back to its inception as Gulf Oil’s Explosive Division R&D laboratory, to an international organization offering industry-wide specialized technical, development and contract services to explosives companies, producers/users of various energetic materials, and government and military agencies around the world. Earlier this year, Suresh and Vani proudly attended Emhyr’s graduation in Engineering (with honors) from Columbia University, under a US Navy ROTC program scholarship.

Suresh and Vani made their home in Olympia, Washington. A Celebration of Life for Suresh is planned by industry friends and colleagues at UTEC in early February.
