SEE Education Foundation scholarships deadline is May 15


09SEEFoundation2LogoColorThe deadline for submitting scholarship applications for the 2012-2013 school year is May 15. 2012. Students enrolled in an accredited university or technical college program in explosives-related fields will qualify if they have completed at least one year of postsecondary education and meet the scholarship requirements:

a) Currently pursuing technical undergraduate, graduate or doctorate degrees in fields of education related to the commercial explosives industry.
b) Must have completed at least one year of an accredited post secondary program.
c) Able to demonstrate financial need.

The SEE Education Foundation Scholarships are an investment in young people who will be working in the commercial explosives industry and in ancillary service industries in the coming years. Through the generosity of those who have established scholarship funds the Society of Explosives Engineers Education Foundation has awarded over two hundred thousand dollars in scholarships.

Terry Matts Recognized with an ISEE President’s Award


 MattsTerry Matts was recognized with an ISEE President’s Award on February 14, 2012 at ISEE’s Annual Conference on Explosives and Blasting Technique held in Nashville, TN. The President’s Award is presented to those who have unselfishly contributed to the Society their time, talents and effort in a voluntary capacity.

Matts has been a member of the ISEE since he has had a career in research for ICI Explosives, which later became Orica Canada. He then went on to work with Natural Resources Canada and is currently a project consultant in British Columbia, Canada. He has been an instructor at the University of British Columbia teaching industry related courses.

Terry has been a member of the ISEE since 1986 and he has been actively involved with the Western Canada Chapter, serving on its Board of Directors and as President. He has been part of the chapter’s outreach to blasters through the annual Western Canada Conference. He is a generous worker on behalf of the ISEE and the industry in sharing his education and career experience. He has been recognized for his work on the 18th Edition of the Blasters’ Handbook and is now working with the development team for the new ISEE Blasting Fundamentals Certificate Program.
