Ski in Denver!

Savy snow sports lovers know that one of the best ways to hit the slopes and get a world-class vacation at the same time is to stay in the city and take daytrips out to the mountains. You can rent equipment for bargain prices in the city, spend your daylight hours enjoying the greatest skiing in the country and spend your nighttime hours taking advantage of Denver's thriving cultural scene, delicious cuisine and hopping nightlife.

One of the most unique ways to head for the hills is the Ski Train, which leaves Denver's Union Station on Winter Weekends and travels 56 miles up into the Rockies, burrowing through 34 tunnels as it climbs 4,000 feet to the Moffat Tunnel - the sixth longest tunnel in North America.  Last stop is Winter Park, a ski area owned and operated by the City of Denver. Skiers can enjoy a full day on the slopes before the train leaves at 4pm, arriving back at Union Station by 6pm.  Day trips will be available Saturdays and Sundays from December 27, 2008 to March 29, 2009. Fridays beginning February 6, 2009.  Get more information on schedules and fares at www.skitrain.com.

Also don't miss Loveland Ski Area, just 53 miles west of Denver on I-70.  You get 1,365 diverse acres of terrain and breath-taking views from the second highest chairlift in the world, not to mention 400 inches of snow annually.
