Students Organize
at Penn State!
With
the support of Dr. R. Larry Grayson, Professor
of Energy and Mineral Engineering, Penn State
Mineral Engineering students are working toward
chartering an ISEE student chapter at Penn State
in 2009. The first organizational meeting
was held with enthusiasm beyond the expectations
of ISEE industry members as 34 engineering
students crowded into a university meeting to
learn more about this unique professional
association that serves the education goals of
the explosives industry.
Industry Presentations were given by Penn State
grads Matt Tomlin, American Rock Mechanics and
Kirk Whitaker, Dimension Supply who is the
current Mid-Atlantic Chapter President as well
as ISEE members, ISEE Past President, Dale
Ramsey. Each of the presenters gave the students
personal testimonials about their experiences in
the industry, the importance of mentoring, and
associations in career building. The
students chosen to work as the organizing
committee are: President: Bob Burns; Vice
President: Patrick D'Elia; Secretary/Treasurer:
Haris Saeed; Social Services Chair: Patrick
Terrazas; Faculty Advisor: Assistant Professor,
Jamal Rostami - Energy and Mineral Engineering;
Industry Advisor: Dale Ramsey, Senex Explosives
Inc.
The group hopes to become Chartered as a student
Chapter by the ISEE Board of Directors this
summer.
